Where to start?...if you have no clue...

Pole Dancing can be intimidating for most. It seems scary to go to a new place where you don't know anyone or how to do anything. Also, being potentially uncomfortable in your skin especially showing any. But one thing about the pole community that I found particularly amazing is that everyone has always been so welcoming and supporting.

I remember my first class feeling pretty defeated when I left. I really only went back because I wanted to support someone launching their own business against many odds. The first class I took was a tricks class and I felt so incredibly weak. I really wasn't working out and had no upper body strength. I was surprised at how hard it felt. We attempted to learn a climb in the first class.... heads up...not a first-time type of thing to learn...But the instructor was learning...I had no clue...hey we live, we learn... hopefully we survive. Haha

A few months later, I gave a dance class a try in a legitimate pole studio (not like the first time pop up in someone's empty house - I will elaborate on my first pole experience in another blog post). Any who. The class I signed up for was a stripper styled heels class. I remember feeling like a fish out of water. I was flopping around while this gorgeous goddess next time me is just flowing so seamlessly. What was odd though, was that I didn't feel in competition with her. I felt supported. (odd) I felt like she wanted me to get the moves and feel good about myself. She was in her 8-inch heels with her skimpy outfit with her perfect body. I was in my shorts, t shirt, socks, with her borrowed kneepads. HOT MESS EXPRESS YA'LL.

But I felt accepted. I felt like I could fail, and the world wouldn't end. Most of all I felt community. I knew it was over. I knew this was going to be my new personality HAHA. My goal at Strong Souls is to replicate that feeling. I want every person that walks through our studio doors to feel so incredibly accepted and supported.

Sooooooo now, let's go over starting your own journey... (aka why you probably started reading this anyway :) )

Pole Dancing has two normal avenues.... Tricks...and Dancing. Some like one over the other. Others love both. I truly recommend giving both a few tries. I also like to spice it up and take both here and there, but my true love is Dancing...love me some heels bestie.

For Tricks we have several options that are beginner friendly.

  • Our Baddie in Training 4 Week Series that we try to host every month. (usually on Sunday mornings) This goes over the basic moves to get you started on a good solid foundation that you can easily jump into other classes and feel like you have a great launching pad.

  • Beginner Tricks & Tips classes - These classes are never the same and always tailored to the skill level that walks in the door. If we have all first timers in the room, we will tailor the whole class to that, but we can also cater to some first timers and higher-level beginners in this class.

  • Sexy Flexi - A great place if you aren't sure about the actual pole. Or maybe you really just want to work on your flexibility.

For Dancing!

  • Bad B*tch Heel Flow - This is an all-levels class, so you will see first timers and higher levels in this class together. We are all completely supported, and modifications and progressions will be given based off of skill level. We work on a choreography together and usually end with a spin.

  • Beginner Low Flow Pole Dance - This can also be an all-levels class, but it is based on not climbing the pole at all. The dance tricks are all on the floor or working around the pole. This is great for people who fear they do not have enough upper arm strength. This is also a great place to build that upper arm strength.

Other Options!

  • Lyra - Aka the aerial hoop - Both our classes are beginner friendly and teach you the art of looking amazing on this flying hoop.

  • Beginner Heel Class / Heel Fundamentals - Both are off the pole and go over the techniques of wearing regular dancing heels (not pole heels).

  • Burlesquercize is all about stripping it down in a fun flirty way. Usually the pole is not involved, but maybe you want to use it as a prop. This is a great class to start moving.
